“I can be a good force in this world, and I can also need help, and I can also be a hot mess. And LEARN from that.” These are words that inspired my most recent EP, entitled “Hot Mess” (released Jan 21, 2022). The song/video featured is called PSA (video edited by Leon Chase). Liberty Styles is a tap dancer, singer and producer. She was born and raised in Western Mass and is currently based in Harlem, NY. Liberty creates tap dance music rooted in improvisation. She has performed as a soloist and with her band on NYC stages including Nublu, ShapeShifter Lab, Williamsburg Music Center, Arlene’s Grocery, and more. Liberty is the founder and organizer of The Spell, an arts space based in Brooklyn. She has toured with London-based saxophonist Xhosa Cole, Boston-based tap company Subject:Matter, and with Michela Lerman’s Love Movement. Liberty has released three EPs of original music, Flipside (2019) and Roam Wide (2021), and Hot Mess (2022).
