Isla x Extendidos
by Karla Dipuglia
A wooden sculpture (resemblant to a broken line) guides the choreography. “Extendidos” explores duality, hybridity and connection through the lenses of the Dominican-Haitian relationship. Dance is a mutual form of expression derived from the African roots of the island.
The performance utilices mobile wooden sticks sculptures that mimic the fragmented border between the two countries. These movable wooden utensils serve as a movement extension tool for the body. However, they are purposely inaccurate – challenging the continuity of steps. The co-dependence between tool-body becomes an exercise of deepening body and mind awareness.
